Christine's Bio
Christine Matheson, B.A., N.D.
Christine has operated her own private and diverse naturopathic practice in Toronto since 2002.  She incorporates a full spectrum of western and eastern-influenced naturopathic therapies which respect the connection between the body, mind and spirit. Christine aims to assist her patients in uncovering the root cause of their illness and is committed to supporting the body's innate ability to heal. She has a special interest in women’s health, gynecological health, digestive health, immunity, stress management and family medicine.  Christine also supports the safe integration of naturopathic medicine with conventional medicine in cases where it is beneficial and has made a committed effort to develop positive working relations with medical doctors and specialists in Toronto. She is very pleased to have been one of the first naturopathic doctor’s in Canada to work in a hospital setting from 2002-2004 while working as a member of the multidisciplinary team of physicians and specialists who practiced and conducted research at the former,Women's Pelvic Health Centre at the Women's College Campus of Sunnybrook and Women's College Health Sciences Centre. While it was open, this truly innovative clinic offered a unique blend of conventional and natural therapies for women suffering from all sources of pelvic pain. Through working in this dynamic complementary medicine setting, Christine gained valuable clinical experience and specific knowledge about pelvic health.

After graduating with honours from the University of British Columbia with a degree in Women's Studies, Christine completed four years of naturopathic training at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (Toronto), Canada's first accredited naturopathic college. Her passion for natural medicine has inspired her to seek knowledge from a variety of sources. She is a qualified herbalist and a certified yoga instructor. Christine has taught specialized yoga programs, including classes for people living with cancer at Wellspring, a cancer support agency, and developed a ‘yoga for pelvic health’ program for women dealing with pelvic health concerns. Her therapeutic experience has included working as an intern at the Anishnawbe Health Centre in Toronto and traveling to the United States to apprentice two highly respected naturopathic doctors, Tori Hudson and Mary Bove, who have greatly advanced naturopathic approaches in women's health and pediatrics. As a naturopathic student, Christine was the original founder of the college's annual Women's Health Awareness Week event and was part of a team who implemented the Healthy Breast Program. Upon graduation, Christine was honoured to receive the Swiss Herbal Remedies Bursary in recognition of "excellence in the promotion of women's health" and the President's Award for "professional courage and vision" from the Clinic Faculty.

Christine is a member of the Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors and the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors. She enjoys regularly teaching health and wellness seminars in the Toronto area, such as at the Women’s Health Matters Forum, and has also made several TV appearances on local health and medical shows.
